How Do We Repoint Brickwork?
Our Merthyr Tydfil repointers use the newest technology and tools for their brick and stone repointing work. Our mechanical pointing work is cleaner, is quick and is a more efficient repointing system.
Where applicable, we use a revolutionary mechanical repointing system. This involves a mortar pump to fully inject into the brickwork and stonework joints. Our specialist pointing approach repoints brickwork and stonework quicker and it’s less messy than traditional pointing.
When will a home or property need repointing?
It’s crucial that you have the knowledge to identify when it is time to repoint. Identifying if you need repointing is extremely easy. When examining your brickwork, a good guide to check is to measure the depth against the height of the mortar gap. As soon as the depth is bigger than the height of the mortar filling, you’ll need repointing. You should also simply use your finger to test the mortar, simply dig your finger into the joints between bricks and seeing if the mortar breaks away. Try this in different areas around the back and front of the house.
About Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil (/ˈmɜːrθər ˈtɪdvɪl/;Welsh: Merthyr Tudful [ˈmɛrθɨr ˈtɨdvɨ̞l]) is a large town in Wales, with a population of about 63,546, situated approximately 23 miles (37 km) north of Cardiff. At one time the largest town in Wales, Merthyr Tydfil is today the country’s fourth largest urban area by population. Situated in the historic county of Glamorgan, it is the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough and is administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. Both the town and the county borough are often referred to as simply ‘Merthyr’.
According to legend, the town is named after Tydfil, a daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog. According to her legend, she was slain at Merthyr by pagans around 480; the place was subsequently named Merthyr Tydfil in her honour. Although merthyr generally means “martyr” in modern Welsh, the meaning here is closer to the Latin martyrium: the mausoleum or church built over the relics of a martyr. Similar examples, all from south Wales, include Merthyr Cynog, Merthyr Dyfan and Merthyr Mawr.
